Everyone wants the best WiFi at home. So if the WiFi coverage is not strong enough, you can improve it. There are several options to upgrade your home network. Below you can read what each option entails. The best solution to improve WiFi coverage (network coverage) in your home is to connect one or more access points wired to the router. The prerequisite for this is that cabling is possible. The advantage of an access point is that they have a stable wired connection.
If the access points can be PoE (Power over Ethernet) powered, you do not need to power them with a separate power adapter and a network cable will suffice. In addition, several access point models are equipped with a roaming function, allowing the connection to your wireless device to move seamlessly from access point to access point. This gives you a single WiFi network throughout your home.
If you suffer from a poor WiFi connection in just one room or part of the house, connecting one access point wired or the router may suffice. If several rooms or very large areas are involved, our advice is to connect all access points to the router, preferably combined with switch and/or firewall protection.
If installing cabling in your (holiday) home is not possible, you can opt for a Wi-Fi mesh solution. The access points in such a solution are wirelessly connected to each other with a separate 5GHz connection, so communication between the access points and connected devices is not hindered. The result of a Wi-Fi mesh solution depends on the environment. If there are too many obstacles or the walls are too thick or full of "murs en pierres", the range may be disappointing.
This WiFi Mesh solution is therefore not as good as a wired network, but better than using WiFi amplifiers. This is because amplifiers cannot simultaneously receive the signal from the router and send the WiFi signal to devices. As a result, they keep switching between sending and receiving, halving the WiFi speed and creating an unstable WiFi signal. Optionally, the WiFi Mesh solution can be implemented hybrid: wired where possible and wireless via Mesh in places where there is no wiring.
Powerline WiFi is basically a network connection through the power line, or socket in your (holiday) home. This can be a quick and cheap solution to provide WiFi to a single room such as an attic and is a convenient alternative in properties where the wireless mesh signal does not come through the walls as in most (holiday) houses in France where the walls are full of stone "Murs en Pierres".
If you only want a wired connection in a room for one device such as a laptop or game console, Powerline WiFi can also be the right solution. Tip: it is possible to connect an access point wired to a Powerline adapter.
Installation
Installing WiFi Powerline adapters is very simple. You connect one LAN adapter to your router, plug in all LAN and WiFi adapters where needed and then you can quickly get started. If an adapter has too few LAN ports, connect a switch.

A Powerline adapter is often touted as a holy grail and many people think they have found the solution to their bad WiFi problems but, in practice, this is not the best solution to get good, stable, reliable and fast WiFi connections.

Our years of experience show that a Powerline adapter is often only a short-term solution. In addition, a network connection via the power line of your (holiday) home is very sensitive to interference, any disturbance on the power line by, for example, your kitchen appliances or washing machine can cause an interruption of the connection with a Powerline adapter. Finally, you should bear in mind that using a Powerline adapter is only recommended if you have a single-phase (230V) connection from your main electricity connection. If you have a three-phase (230/400V) electricity connection (commonly known as three-phase or three-phase AC), there is a very good chance that the Powerline adapter will work on some outlets in your home. This is because the transmitter and receiver of the Powerline adapter must be connected to the same phases.
